Indoor Localization

Indoor localization represents an open problem regarding robot navigation. Usually, Autonomous Mobile Robots use GPS to locate themselves in open spaces, but GPS and other satellite technologies have poor precision or fail entirely inside buildings, airports, alleys, parking garages and underground locations.

Indoor positioning systems use different technologies, including distance measurement to nearby anchor nodes, magnetic positioning, dead reckoning. They either actively locate mobile devices and tags or provide ambient location or environmental context for devices to get sensed.
