GRID 5000 Testbed for Peer to Peer Video distribution

We have built a testbed for performing experimental evaluation of P2P video streaming on GRID 5000, an infrastructure comprising around 5000 nodes distributed in 9 French cities.

The testbed is made of the following components:

  • A bittorrent tracker (BTT)
  • A number of modified bittorrent clients (BTC) distributed in the GRID'5000 network
P2P video streaming Testbed

The chunk selection algorithm of the bittorent clients has been modified to:

  • Reduce video start up latency
  • Reduce pauses in the video that could occur due to buffer underflow

We have customized a linux distribution to provide the modified bittorrent client and scripts used to run the distributed experiments.

The modified bittorent clients have been deployed in the testbed and a number of different experiments have been carried out.
